Les Houches Doctoral Training School in Statistical Physics

June 22 through July 3 2015.

The methods of statistical mechanics are very powerful tools which have found much use in most branches of physics and are increasingly used in other disciplines such as biology, economics and finance. In this predoctoral school, through a series of lectures and work sessions, the students will be exposed to uses and applications of quantum and classical statistical mechanics in a broad range of subjects of high current interest. It is assumed that the students are familiar with the notions of equilibrium classical statistical mechanics (partition function, Maxwell distribution, calculating average values, etc.). The first week will focus on fundamentals and the second week will make contact with currently active research subjects.
