PhD Vacancies, University of York, UK

Closing date: Friday 6th March.

The Magnetism and Spintronics group at York has recently been allocated two PhD studentships to start in October 2015.  The first of these is on spintronic devices and specifically spin transistor and will be based in the Department of Electronics.  However the work will be undertaken in the integrated group between Physics and Electronics formerly the Magnetic Materials Research Group.

The second is a project to study interface effects in exchange bias systems which carries additional financial support from Seagate Technology in Northern Ireland and the opportunity to spend a summer internship working in Londonderry.

Candidates need to have a 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree if they are from a UK university and an equivalent qualification if they trained outside the UK.  I regret that the funding available can only be allocated to EU nationals.

We have recently been informed that we are to be awarded an EPSRC/JSPS Core-to-Core project in collaboration with Technical University of Kaiserslautern and Tohoku University.  Hence the student will also have the opportunity to spend time working in Germany and the projects will require a period to be spent working in Sendai, Japan.
