PhD Position in Theory of Electronic Transport at the Nanoscale

We announce the opening of a PhD position in the Mesoscopic Physics Group at the Materials Physics Center CFM, San Sebastian, Spain. This position has a duration of 4 years and will start as soon as a suitable candidate is found.

The PhD student will be offered a range of research topics in the field of Quantum Transport at the Nanoscale with the emphasis on spin, charge, and heat transport in several branches of modern Nanoelectronics. With diligence from the Mesoscopic Physics Group, the PhD student will be introduced to a range of theoretical techniques necessary to address the phenomena in question and, gradually, stepping up in difficulty. The research will be carried out within the project “Spin-dependent Transport in Hybrid Structures: Metals, Superconductors, Semiconductors, Graphene and Topological Insulators” funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (equivalent of Ministry of Science). The PhD student will also have a unique chance to interact with a constant flow of renown professors and senior scientists visiting the DIPC.

About the Material Physics Center:
The CFM center is situated on the Ibaeta Campus of the University of the Basque Country among an agglomeration of scientific and technological centers and in a lively scientific and student environment. In itself, CFM is a joint initiative between the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), both being flagship institutions at the regional and national level respectively. The headquarters are at a walking distance from CIC Nanogune and the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC). The former is a technological center devoted to the transfer of knowledge towards industry in the field of nanotechnologies. The later is a public/private foundation, whose primary goal is to host world-class researchers (thanks to an ongoing agreement, CFM researchers have priority in proposing researchers which can be hosted through the DIPC program). Both institutions work in synergy with CFM, boosting the impact of the scientific activities carried on in collaboration.
