Post-doc position at Université de Perpignan Via Domitia (UPVD)

Coupling of plasmonic nanostructures to (magnetic) semiconductors: control of optical properties for energy efficiency

Position 12-month post-doc in the framework of the LabEx project SOLSTICE

We invite applications for a post-doctoral position in optical and magneto-optical properties of hybrid nanostructures consisting of an assembly of metallic/magnetic nanoparticles in contact with a (magnetic) semiconductor, within our group Nanoscale Systems and Structures.

We seek an experienced individual in microscopic approaches of quantum field theory and theoretical condensed matter physics to conduct calculations of decay rates and cross sections of the elementary processes occurring at the interface between an assembly of metallic/magnetic nanoparticles and a (magnetic) semiconductor. The focus is mainly put on the role of magnetism in the optimization of the optical properties of the whole hybrid structure. The main purpose is to investigate the conditions under which the physical phenomena and the corresponding channels for energy conversion and transfer can be relevant and efficient in more realistic devices that are of practical interest, such as solar cells.

A PhD in Physics and a good practice of the methods of quantum field theory applied to condensed matter physics is required together with a strong background in magnetic systems and semiconductors. Applications should include a cover letter with a statement of motivation, curriculum vitae, list of publications, concise statement of research, and the names and addresses of at least two referees. Formal evaluation of candidates will begin on October 15th, 2016 and continue until the position is filled. The position is for 12 months and the salary is 2000e/month free of taxes.
