Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions, funded by an ERC Starting grant, to work with Dr B. Béri at the Department of Physics and/or the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge. The posts are for theoretical investigations of quantum many-particle systems, including certain strongly correlated forms of topological phases, in part motivated by developments in solid-state quantum devices, ultracold atoms, and quantum information theory.

The successful candidates will have a PhD in condensed matter theory or a closely related subject, and will have demonstrated a strong background in the theory of quantum many-body systems, including expertise in relevant mathematical and/or numerical approaches (e.g., quantum/statistical field theory, matrix product state methods, exact diagonalisation). Familiarity with the theory of topological phases and quantum information theory is desirable.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience in writing reports, presenting results, drafting and contributing to academic papers, as evidenced by a strong publication record in leading international journals in the field. Further essential requirements include: the ability to work productively in a team, to communicate clearly and to present data to other members of the group and collaborators; experience in managing one’s own workload; high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Applicants will continually update knowledge in the specialist area and engage in continuous professional development

The post holder will be located in the Cavendish Laboratory, Department of Physics and/or DAMTP, Centre for Mathematical Sciences.
