Assistant Professor in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

The Department of Physics, University of Alberta (www.physics.ualberta.ca) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in theoretical condensed matter physics. We primarily seek candidates at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants must possess a PhD in Physics, have a strong record of research in theoretical condensed matter physics, and be committed to excellence in teaching.  The successful candidate will be expected to build a strong research program, secure external funding, supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department of Physics has 49 faculty members with research interests in condensed matter physics, astrophysics and cosmology, biophysics, geophysics, and subatomic physics. Experimental condensed matter research at the University of Alberta is supported by world-class facilities, and extensive infrastructure for high-performance computing is provided by the Western Canada Research Grid (www.westgrid.ca) in addition to local resources.  Initiatives by the Governments of Alberta and Canada provide exceptional opportunities for additional funding to establish new research programs at the University of Alberta. The successful candidate may be considered for nomination as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair, if a slot is available.
