There are three openings for PhD positions at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at Utrecht University, in the area of magnetism and spintronics. It is the intention to fill these positions from early 2023 until September 2023. A brief description of the positions is:
- Theory for black holes on a chip: following our recent theoretical proposals for engineering, with spin current, black holes for spin waves, this PhD position is focused on developing the theoretical description for realistic materials and experiments. It will be carried out in close collaboration with the group Physics of Nanostructures at Eindhoven University and is funded through a collaborative project between Utrecht and Eindhoven. - Theory for Van der Waals magnets: this project focuses on magnons in Van der Waals magnets and, particularly, on topological magnonics and topologically-protected magnon spin transport. It is part of a large collaborative project that involves theory and experiment from Delft and Groningen. - Theory for spin transport in complex magnets: this project focuses on spin transport in complex magnets with many magnetic interactions and ultimately aims at developing theory for spin transport by excitations that are more involved than conventional magnons or electrons.
