Change is afoot at Physics Today. The current Editor in Chief (EIC) has announced his impending retirement. Now the most recognized and respected magazine in physics, published by the American Institute of Physics, is looking for an editorially talented, enthusiastic, insatiably curious EIC to lead and manage an experienced and talented team of editors and reporters in providing compelling content to scientists and engineers. Candidates should have a broad view of the physical sciences, be editorially creative and maintain a strong sense of editorial independence and integrity. Candidates should have a vision for serving a highly diverse and evolving community and a passion for bringing excellent science writing to readers around the world.
Essential among many responsibilities is the acquisition of feature articles and shepherding this content through development, submission, peer review, revision, editing, and publication. As the primary “face” of the publication in the community, the EIC must be a regular attendee at various scientific meetings.
Candidates should provide a Curriculum Vitae. Physics Today’s mission is to unify the physical science community. Candidates should write a brief essay outlining their ability to enable the magazine to fulfill its mission. A writing and editing test will be given to prospective candidates.
A PhD in science with 7–10 years of physics-related work experience is required. A physics degree is preferred. Previous management, editorial, and/or writing experience is highly desirable.
