Two-dimensional (2D) systems, characterized by radically new properties and functionalities, are emerging as the material choice for the next stage of Spintronics and Quantum Electronics revolution. Among 2D-systems, 2D electron gases (2DEGs) formed at the interface between insulating transition
metal oxides, like LaAlO3 and SrTiO3, are characterized by a unique combination of high-mobility, strongspin-orbit coupling (SOC), superconductivity (SC), interfacial 2D-magnetism, and theoretically predicted topological states.

Within the Italian National MIUR project TOP-SPIN (Two-dimensional oxides Platform for SPINorbitronics nanotechnology) and in close connection with the QUANTERA ERA-NET Eu-project QUANTOX (Quantum applications with two dimensional oxides), both coordinated by Dr. M. Salluzzo, the CNR-SPIN Institute is looking for motivated candidates for a two-year post-doc position in the field of low
temperature phenomena in 2D oxide interfaces.

The activities foreseen include the fabrication, characterization and study of the interplay between Rashba spin orbit coupling, 2D-magnetism and 2D-superconductivity in novel oxide interfaces, of interest for quantum-based application.

The experimental activity will benefit from the availability of the advanced Modular Facility for Oxide Deposition and Analysis (MODA) at the CNR-SPIN Institute in Naples, which is located at the Department of Physics of the University «Federico II» of Naples, Italy. The work includes the realization of novel oxide 2DEGs by Pulsed Laser Deposition, assisted by RHEED, in-situ studies by X-ray and UV photoemission, SPA-LEED and Scanning Probe Microscopy, and low temperature characterization by magneto-transport measurements and x-ray based spectroscopies using Synchrotron radiation (XAS, XMCD, ARPES, SOFT-Resonant ARPES, GXID).

The successful candidate is expected to have completed his phd in condensed matter physics, or related disciplines, and to have experience in one or more of the following fields:
1) Growth of materials by physical vapor deposition methods (PLD, MBE)
2) Transport characterization at low temperature
3) Experience in x-ray and/or Scanning probe microscopy/spectroscopy.

The candidate will gain experience in the field of oxide materials, and in particular in oxide growth, insitu characterization and study of the surface/interface physics using photoemission, LEED and Scanning probe microscopy, as well as experience in x-ray spectroscopies. Moreover, he/she will work in a stimulating academic environment, and will have the possibility of frequent exchange with the six EU-partners of the EU-Projects QUANTOX, among the most active groups in EU and outside EU in the field of oxide 2DEGs.
