PostDoc position on Electrocaloric oxides under strain

Job Information

Working conditions: full-time contract of 1.5 years (possibility of extension, depending on funding)

Organization: Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INMA), CSIC-Universidad de Zaragoza (https://inma.unizar-csic.es)

Location: Zaragoza (Spain)

Deadline for applications: 31st of May 2024

Offer Description

This position is funded by the project: “Towards clean and efficient multicaloric cooling through ferroelectric oxides under strain” (Ref. CNS2023-144356), whose core research programme focuses on exploring cross-correlated effects between electrocaloric and elastocaloric properties in lead-free ferroelectric oxides. We seek to: 1) develop novel instruments for measuring the stress-mediated electrocaloric effect in bulk and thin-film samples, and 2) apply synchrotron techniques for an atomic-level microscopic characterization.

The selected candidate will participate in the instrumentation implementation and the preparation and characterization of potential ferroelectric perovskite materials (bulk and/or strain-engineered thin films).

Requirements and skills

  • PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or related fields
  • Previous research in preparation and/or characterization of ferroelectrics is essential
  • Good skills in instrumentation (e.g. temperature cells for measurements of electrical or electromechanical properties) and/or synchrotron techniques are an asset

Application procedure

Pre-selection process: candidates should send a CV + one-page Letter of Interest, including dates of availability, to Dr. Sara Lafuerza (lafuerza@unizar.es) before 31st of May 2024. Official call for position opening pending (expected starting date is Sep.-Oct. 2024).
