A postdoctoral position in theoretical physics opens in autumn 2018 to fulfill a position in a joint project between the Laboratoire de Physique Théorique, (LPT, Toulouse) and the Laboratoire de Physique Théorique et Modèles Statistiques (LPTMS, Orsay). This position is funded by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) in the framework of the grant COCOA (Control of Complex Cold atom Systems) attributed to a theoretical team composed of the permanent researchers Gabriel Lemarie and Bertrand Georgeot (Toulouse) (webpages http://www.lpt.ups-tlse.fr/spip.php?article65&lang=en and http://www.lpt.ups-tlse.fr/spip.php?article28&lang=en) and Olivier Giraud and Denis Ullmo (Orsay) (webpages http://lptms.u-psud.fr/olivier_giraud/ and http://lptms.u-psud.fr/membres/ullmo/), together with the experimental cold atom team of David Guery-Odelin and Juliette Billy in Toulouse (webpage http://www.coldatomsintoulouse.com).

The research project is centered on theoretical studies of quantum transport with cold atoms in disordered or chaotic systems in close connection with experiments. The project will analyse the interplay between different physical phenomena: tunnel effect, chaos, quantum localization and interaction effects. Its aim will be to investigate many new regimes of fundamental physics (from disordered to strongly correlated systems) but also to create innovative tools to manipulate cold atoms. The candidate should have a good knowledge of quantum mechanics, theoretical physics and computer simulations. Expertise in mesoscopic physics, cold atoms or quantum chaos would be a plus. Citizenship does not matter.

The LPT and LPTMS are internationally recognized in the fields of mesoscopic physics, many-body interaction systems, high Tc superconductivity, quantum and classical chaos,
statistical physics.

The position is available for TWO YEARS, with possible extensions. Salary will follow the standard regulations of the CNRS and will depend on experience. In addition to the salary, health insurance, retirement and unemployment benefits, plus support for travels are provided.  The successful candidate is expected to take the position by autumn 2018, but the precise date can be slightly shifted by mutual agreement. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL SPEND THE FIRST YEAR AT LPT IN TOULOUSE AND THE SECOND YEAR AT LPTMS IN ORSAY IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE COMMON PROJECT.

Applicants should provide a CV with the list of publications, a motivation letter, and arrange for two or more letters of recommendation to be sent before JULY 30, 2018
